Get a quoteThere are some houses across the UK that need a certain type of fuel to heat them – this is known as kerosene – a combustible hydrocarbon liquid that is a derivative of petroleum.
The fuel is stored in kerosene storage tanks and is used to heat and power homes and businesses – often in more rural areas.
This is often the case as these areas are not connected to the UK’s gas pipeline network. According to OFTEC, kerosene fuels more than 1.5 million homes and up to 250,000 rural businesses.
Kerosene is a petroleum product that is created by separating the compounds that make up crude oil – and is made and stored in a process called fractional distillation.
If you are looking to purchase kerosene – you’ll need to be aware that it goes by a few other names.
Kerosene is known as paraffin in the UK and many other places around the world.
It is also known as heating oil or lamp oil.
Due to its use in many different industries, it also is shortened to ‘kero’.
This fuel is known around the world as the power behind the aviation industry. Also known as jet fuel, it has also powered rocket engines for missions to space!
However, it also fuels millions of homes in countries all over the world. It is used to power lighting and cooking.
Kerosene is also used as a fuel for small outboard motors and even some motorbikes.
In many industries, it can also be used as a lubricant or solvent.
It is also stored and used to help the entertainment industry! If there is anything that requires fire – then it is kerosene that is being used.

We provide three types of kerosene. Learn more below:
This is the most common type of fuel used to heat homes here in the UK.
It is ideal for all domestic pressure jet heating oil boilers and for use in the majority of vaporised burners.
Our premium kerosene is specifically formulated for boiler systems.
It reduces sludge formation by keeping your fuel system systems clean. It inhibits corrosion and produces a cleaner, greener burn – as it lowers the levels of C02 emissions.
This leads to optimum burner performance and reduces the number of potential service issues.
Another one of our premium kerosene has been formulated for cooker systems.
This version lowers carbon and deposit build-up, and stabilises the fuel by inhibiting sludge formation.
This means that it keeps the fuel fresher for longer and also reduces service problems.
Hopefully, this guide has given you some useful knowledge on kerosene!
